WILL HIGH GAS PRICES HURT THE SKI INDUSTRY?

As gas prices soar above $3.00 per gallon, I wonder how it will impact the ski industry. Will skiers be willing to just hop into their cars and drive up to their favorite resort every time it snows? Will they be able to afford to fly to their favorite resort and play in the snow?

We are going to see a rise in cost across the board as the effects of higher gas prices impact airfare, food, heating and the cost of everything that must be transported across America, not to mention the higher cost of snowmaking that will be reflected in the price of lift tickets.

It boggles my mind that we are still at the mercy of foreign oil. We should have learned our lesson during the oil crisis of the 1970's. I was living in Vermont at that time and remember the lines at the gas stations and the sign "OUT OF GAS" that was hung in front of the Pittsfield Country Store on Rt. 100 when I was living it that little town, half-way between Killington and Sugarbush.

I saw the muscle cars disappear, as everybody started purchasing more economical automobiles. We used to run our cars on "gravity power", in order to save gas and coast from the top of Killington Pass, all the way into Rutland whenever we went to town and then see how far we could coast from the top of the pass on the way home.

I saw the country start to explore alternate fuel sources. Many of my friends started to heat with wood, solar panels started to appear and the country explored alternate energy sources. Unfortunately, we got complacent and our politicians (both Democratic and Republican) really let us down. As time passes, we ALL forgot about the gas crisis. We started demanding larger and larger cars with bigger and bigger engines. We traded in our four-cylinder economy cars for gas-guzzling SUVs with big V-8s, just to run the kids to the soccer game in areas of the country that get little or no snow.

We let the tree-huggers stop all refinery construction for 30 YEARS and now we are paying the price for our foolishness. So, the next time you fill up your tank and it costs you $50.00 or more, just thank YOURSELF for being so SHORT-SIGHTED, SELFISH and POLITICALLY CORRECT.

THE SOLUTION
We must end our dependance on foreign oil. I think we should seriously explore using renewable fuel sources like methane. Run America on BULLSHIT and have a special exception for Washington, D.C. and run DC on CHICKENSHIT! All kidding aside, we need to really make a commitment to renewal fuel sources, like ethanol, and even make a real long-range commitment to developing hydrogen-powered vehicles, electric cars and other ways of reducing the death-hold that the Arabs have on our economy.
