Being a member of the Ski Patrol is a great way to ski for FREE. The Pinecrest Nordic Ski Patrol patrols the back country of Stanislaus National Forest, which is between Yosemite and Tahoe near the Dodge Ridge Ski Resort. They are currently recruiting Nordic / backcountry skiers to volunteer to be trained and become National Ski Patrol Nordic Patrollers.

If you would like to ski the backcountry with them, you will learn: emergency first aid and how to mark and maintained ski trails. They will teach you how to help injured backcountry skiers and provide assistance to SAR and EMS Primary Responders. You will even learn how to do emergency ski repairs and are guaranteed to become a better skier and make a lot of great friends.

The Pinecrest Nordic Ski Patrol was awarded the Ronald Ricketts Award for the Most Outstanding Nordic Ski Patrol in the nation for 2000 - 2001. This National Outstanding Nordic Ski Patrol Award is presented each year to the single most outstanding Nordic Ski Patrol in the nation. The outstanding Nordic Ski Patrol is selected from among the nominations sent by the Division Directors throughout the nation to the National NSP Office and approved by the NSP National Awards Committee. If you ski with these guys, you are skiing with the BEST.

The Pinecrest Nordic Ski Patrol is participating with the Stanislaus National Forest in a "Ski With a Ranger" program. Where else can you ski with Smokey the Bear and all his buddies. Learn about the forest and the winter environment in a fun relaxed tour.

The Pinecrest Nordic Ski Patrol is a registered member of the National Ski Patrol, and patrols under a volunteer agreement for the U.S. Forest Service. They patrol approximately 60km of non-groomed backcountry ski trails in the Stanislaus National Forest. Our Trails are in the forest surrounding the Dodge Ridge Ski Resort, and are accessed via the Crabtree and Gooseberry trail heads. Depending on snow conditions, we patrol every weekend during the winter season and some mid-week during school vacations. Patrollers carry a Forest Service radio and a patrol pack with personal and patient emergency equipment sufficient to provide safety, comfort, emergency ski repairs, needed first aid, and spend the night out of their patrol packs if necessary.

They are looking for intermediate level (or better) cross-country or tele skier. They want skiers with mid-weight (or better) skis, boots, and poles, and skiers that possess sufficient physical strength and endurance to undergo the severity of serious winter back-country skiing. If you're enthusiastically motivated towards greater self-fulfillment, want to improve your skiing and winter skills, and you derive gratification in sharing your skills and interests with others. They are recruiting skiers that can meet the patrols minimum eight patrol days, plus several training days per season.

If you enjoy the serenity of cross-country skiing and working in the pristine winter environment, magnificent wide open vistas of the Sierra backcountry inspire you, long days of plowing through two feet of new fallen snow on skinny skis is your idea of a good time, and you want to be a service to the winter recreationist, then skiing as a National Ski Patroller is right for you.

So what are you waiting for? Give them a call, the Pinecrest Nordic Ski Patrol needs you!

Members of the National Ski Patrol also receive complementary ski passes at almost EVERY ski area in the country. This is a great way to help your fellow skiers and ski for FREE.
