Mathias' winning run started with a double blackflip indy on the first kicker, a fs720 tailgrab off the second before getting technical on the rails with a lipslide 270 off on the up rail and a front blunt switch up on the down rail.

Best week of my life." Tim was equally stoked, "I got second which makes this trip extra awesome, but even if I hadn't of I still had the greatest time ever and got to experience China for the first time!" Ian's run featured back-to-back double backflip varieties, while Tim's featured a huge cab900 crail to rodeo 720.

36-year-old veteran snowboarder Wang Lei was the highest placed Chinese rider, earning an impressive tenth place and earning the largest cheers from the crowd. "I haven't really ridden kickers for two years, so I'm so stoked on the result - it was so much fun riding with everyone again!"

Merika Enne's first place run included this HUGE fs540! pic by Fischi

Beijing, CHINA (January 10th, 2014) Day 1 of the 12th Red Bull Nanshan Open was all about the ladies! As the competition's second year featuring riders of the female variety, spectators were treated to some of the best ladie's riding in the world as 28 male riders and 9 female riders from 10 different countries hit the Nanshan Mellow Park, located just outside the China's capital.

It was a Finnish one-two as Merikia Enne and Kristiina Nisula snatched first and second place respectively in the women's finals, both killing it with riding that would have placed well in the male division! Merika takes home US$10,000 with a huge run featuring a massive FS540 off the first kicker (stomping it halfway down the landing), a switch bs180 on the second kicker, a 50-50 BS180 out on the pole-jam and a switch rock to fakie on the wallride. Last year's winner Kristiina only just missed out on a repeat, with a rodeo 720 on the first jump, bs360 on the second, 180 out on the pole-jam and air to fakie on the wallride. American rider Michelle Zeller finished the podium off in third with back to back 360s, while Japanese rider Asami Hirono placed fourth.

In addition to the women's competition, today also saw the 28-strong field of male riders narrowed down to 15 for tomorrow's finals. Once again it was a Finnish rider at the top of the table, qualifying first with a bs1080 double cork off the first, a fs720 on the second, and jibbing up a storm with a front lip 270 off the pole jam and hand plant on the wallride.

Fingers will be crossed for good weather at the men's finals tomorrow with the local crowd stoked to be cheering on the Chinese representation with Wang Lei qualifying in 15th.
