FREESTYLE WORLD CUP AT LAKE PLACID
American skiers Hannah Kearney (Norwich, Vt.) and Ashley Caldwell (Hamilton, Va.) will try to defend their World Cup crowns when the FIS Freestyle World Cup returns to Lake Placid, N.Y. and Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, N.Y., Jan. 19-21. Come to Whiteface and watch the event with me. Action begins Thursday, Jan. 19, at Whiteface, when Kearney begins defense of her moguls' World Cup crown and France's Guilbault Colas tries to hold off a deep men's field and capture his second World Cup win on the mountain's Wilderness Trail. Competition on 240-meter long course begins at 9:15 a.m. with the women's qualifications, followed by the men's qualifications at 11:35 a.m. MORE

Alpe d'Huez Skiercross Brings Sunny Skies and Great Competition - Joe Swensson (Niantic, CT) continued on his ski cross tear finishing 12th at the third stop of the ski cross World Cup tour in Alpe d Huez. John Teller (Mammoth Mountain, CA) finished just behind in 13th after qualifying fifth. The tour moves to Les Contamines, France this weekend, Jan. 14-15. MORE


LAIVISTO 1ST AT RED BULL OPEN!
In his third appearance at the event, Finnish rider Juuso Laivisto today claimed his second first-place finish at China's TTR 5Star 10th Red Bull Nanshan Open. "It's been awesome to see how the event has grown the last few years, and to see such legends in the judging booth made it extra special to win here today!" Juuso said as he celebrated his win. With the aforementioned judges including Michi Albin, Ingemar Bachman and Scotty Wittlake in charge of narrowing yesterday's 12 top-ranked riders down to four for the afternoon's Super Finals, the level of riding was significantly elevated from the qualification round as riders gave their all for promises of fame, glory and of course TTR points and prize money! Kearney's Year Long Win Streak at 10 - Olympic champion Hannah Kearney (Norwich, VT) captured her first victory at Mont Gabriel, extending her FIS Freestyle World Cup win streak to 10 consecutive. Jeremy Cota (Carrabassett Valley, ME) joined Kearney on the podium with a career best second behind winner Mikael Kingsbury of Canada.Action continues Sunday with the opening aerials event of the season before the World Cup swings to Lake Placid. $29 Lift Tickets are "Popping Up" In Vt.
In an effort to show that winter has finally "popped" in Vermont, Bolton Valley, big mountain skiing and riding packed with value just 30 minutes from Burlington, will be selling through this Friday at four Vermont ski and snowboard shops, a limited number of $29 lift tickets valid during the 2011-2012 season. Only 250 tickets will be sold at the South Burlington, Burlington, Montpelier, and Richmond shops, and there is a limit of two tickets per customer. MORE
